Save the Date for the 13th annual Art Palm Beach, a dynamic event in America’s premier winter destination, hosting leading international galleries in modern and contemporary art, photography, fine art glass, video and design.

As the economy continues its resurgence, Art Palm Beach offers collectors superlative artwork by the classic modern masters. Among the exceptional offerings are Helen Frankenthaler’s “The Fourth” (1985), “Blue Door” (1994) and “Core” (1965) by Robert Rauschenberg, the kinetic master Julio Le Parc’s 1962 installation “Continuel-Lumière Cylindre,” the fair’s signature image, Tom Wesselmann’s “Still Life with Liz” (1993), and a rare 1982 “Surrounded Islands” original 5’ x 7’ drawing and collage by Christo and Jeanne-Claude of the wrapped islands project in Miami. Collectors will also be able to add major works to their collections by Warhol, Calder, Picasso, Stella, Haring, Margritte, Moore, Rive rs and Vasarely.

The fair offers novice and seasoned collectors a vast selection of contemporary art as well, by Jamie Baldridge, Charles Arnoldi, Bo Bartlett, Chuck Close, Jean Dubuffet, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Julian Opie, Ed Ruscha, Graciela Sacco, Tomas Sanchez, Frank Stella, Donald Sultan, and Wayne Theibaud.

Art Palm Beach’s tradition of exhibiting top photographers has expanded this year as the market for photography grows and auction prices rise to new heights. Vintage works by Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Alfred Eisenstaedt can be viewed next to Dutch master Hendrik Kerstens, whose works were just exhibited at New York’s Chelsea Museum. Angelo Musco’s installation “Lactis,” a sensation at this year’s Venice Biennale will be on display, as will works by Dianne Blell, Aperture Foundation’s exhibit of Sylvio Wolf, Joel Meyerowitz and Michal Chelbin, and a special exhibition by Bruce Weber, photographer of the fashion icons of this generation, Calvin Klein, Versace and Ralph Lauren.

Fine sculptures abound at Art Palm Beach. Lynn Chadwick’s “Maquette I Jubilee III” is one of numerous pieces on display, with further contributions by Viola Frey, Michael Lucero, Jaume Plensa, Soto and Bernar Venet. Distinctive fine glass work is also evident throughout, including “Rayton” by William Morris, Dale Chihuly’s “GildedEmerald Sealife Putti with Blowfish,” “Silken” by Dan Dailey, and Lino Tagliapietra’s “Dinosaur” and “Mandara.”

Art Palm Beach will explore the latest trends in international art through the “Going Global” theme, exhibiting artwork by contemporary and emerging artists from Asia, the Middle East and Europe. A number of distinguished curators and experts in the art world join the program as well, presenting a series of vibrant lectures throughout the fair’s 6 day run. The fair offers collectors, museum curators and trustees, art advisors, an enlightening lecture series, and VIP events. The Preview Party on January 14th honors the Young Collectors of the Norton and the Four Arts Contemporaries.

This year to further benefit the community, Art Palm Beach is pleased to participate in the spirit of cultural philanthropy in the Palm Beaches that has empowered and inspired thousands. In this spirit, the fair has adopted the “Art Palm Beach Shares” program for 2010 and will donate all admission proceeds and a portion of food and beverage proceeds to a different local cultural organization each day.

As our special guest, the ticket below provides you and a guest complimentary admission to the fair during regular show hours.

We look forward to seeing you for this memorable week of fine art, cultural events and museum exhibitions in the beautiful Palm Beaches.

Conversation with the artist: February 11, 6:30pm

Locust Projects is pleased to present a new exhibition by Miami-based artist Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova. An Uneven Floor is a site-specific installation featuring an unleveled floor covered in pink carpet. The work represents Rodriguez-Casanova’s most ambitious project to date, encompassing the entire 2,700 square foot gallery space.

An Uneven Floor is a continuation of the artist’s interest in domestic objects and suburban architectural elements that explore social, cultural and autobiographical matters. Employing the language of Minimalism, the plush pink carpet suggests the safe environment of a domestic setting, while the unexpected elevation and descent of An Uneven Floor will create a sense of instability as visitors walk through the space. This contradiction sets the stage for an unsettling dialogue between the viewer’s perception of a familiar object and its new context.

Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova studied at the Ringling School of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL and the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. Rodriguez-Casanova was the recipient of a 2007 Reed Foundation Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center and has received prestigious awards including the South Florida Cultural Consortium. The artist’s work is currently on view at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, Coral Gables, FL. Recent exhibitions include David Castillo Gallery, Miami, FL; the Sculpture Center, Long Island City, NY; and Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, NY.

My sincerest gratitude to Lin Lougheed and Galt & Skye Mikesell for their generous support.

PINTA, the modern and contemporary art fair, has proven over the last three years that the high quality art produced in Latin America is an important player on the global stage. The participation of 60 art galleries from the United States, Europe and Latin America is a testament to PINTA’s growing influence.

“We are a young fair. Our commitment is and will be to continue working to present Latin American art to the world,” said its director Diego Costa Peuser.

Museums are key partners

“Purchases made by museums and private collectors confirm the viability of the market for Latin American art in the international sphere. Now, that market is poised to grow,” said Mauro Herlitzka, Institutional Director of PINTA. Mr. Herlitzka pointed to the participation of eight museums, invited by PINTA Museums Acquisition Program.

Mr. Costa Peuser and Mr. Herlitzka cited examples of the success of this program: the Tate Modern Art Gallery of London bought “Las desformantes” (1964) by Horacio Zabala; Pinacoteca de São Paulo purchased two Fiaminghi works from 1956; Harvard Museum is planning to acquire a historic sculpture by Víctor Grippo; and Museum of Fine Arts Boston expressed its interest on “Untitled With Fallen Chairs” (2009) by Lilliana Porter; Museo Tamayo of México bought “The Painter” (2009), also by Porter, and “Even Days, Odd Days” (1969-2009) by David Lamelas.

El Museo del Barrio of Nueva York purchased artworks by Fanny Sanín, Karlo Cárcamo and Milagros de la Torre. Also, MBA Lazard bank bought two pieces by Darío Escobar and Denise Lira for its itinerant collection of Latin American art.

Voices of the art world

Nara Roesler, of Nara Roesler Gallery São Paulo, who has participated in PINTA since the first year, has witnessed the growth of the fair.

“This third year was better than the previous years, because there were more collectors, more sales and more museums buying”, Ms. Roesler said. “We brought Paolo Bruscky, a conceptual artist that got a Guggenheim fellowship in the 80′s and he was a great success. Many collectors bought his pieces.”

Further evidence of the increasing interest in the Latin American art market was the participation of fifteen galleries from New York this year.

Alexander Gray, owner of Alexander Gray Gallery of New York, told about this his first time participating in PINTA: “We met a lot of new people and a lot of museums people friends. Our presentation had a strong impact on the fair. It increased awareness in the collectors because we are not a Latin American art gallery per se. We sold to an American collector that is not a collector of Latin American art. We are very encouraged by our experience and plan to come back next year.”

Flavio Cohn, of Dan Gallery de São Paulo, was surprised by the fair’s impact on the New York art scene. “Pinta is a new art fair, since three years is just a beginning. In the coming years all the players will evolve. There will be more maturity in the way the art galleries present themselves to the collectors and curators. This is our first year and we want to return next year.”

Alejandro Zaia, chairman of PINTA, is optimistic about the future: “In this difficult year, we exceed our own expectations in quality and quantity and public art proposals. This gives us confidence to face our next big goal — to take PINTA to London next year.”
